Papa Smurf – A New Kind of Blue

Customized does not begin to describe the massively modified Jeep Unlimited the wizards at American Wheel and Tire call Papa Smurf. This ride is rigged and outfitted to dominate off-road terrain and give you the ultimate dirt kicking, rock climbing, mud slugging experience sure to test the limits of your skill. But that’s just the beginning. Once you wash this bad boy off after a day in the outback, get ready for a lot of attention as you cruise the city with a big grin on your face.

This monster is eye-grabbing blue, some might call it Smurf blue. But this blue isn’t just paint. It’s Kevlar coating with a 4700 tensile strength that makes it scratch and dent resistant, two qualities every off-roader can appreciate. But there are a lot of mods done to this beast before it sees the inside of a paint booth.

Daytime Bruiser

Life off-road can be tough. That’s why the wrenchers at American Wheel and Tire armor up Papa Smurf with Smittybilt XRC Armor lower body guards, Smittybilt XRC Gen2 front and rear bumpers, and Rugged Ridge Spartan grille shell to augment stock skid plates and other protective gear. Underneath Papa Smurf has been fitted with a 4” Rough Country X-Series lift, Rubicon Express remote reservoir shocks, and a Rough Country dual steering stabilizer.

The whole enchilada, including the Smittybilt X20 10,000lbs waterproof winch with synthetic rope, is powered by Jeep’s 285 hp 3.6L V6 that generates 260 lb-ft of torque. Actually, we thought that was a bit ho-hum, so we dropped an Edelbrock Supercharger in and boosted the hp to 410. That juiced up powerplant is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that turns the four, very impressive, Rockstar 3, 20×12 KMC wheels (the ones with the blue painted accents) wrapped in 37″x13.50″-20 Nitto Mud Grappler M/T tires. Awesome!



Nighttime Showoff

At the end of the day when you’ve cleaned up the monster and the sun goes down, Papa Smurf becomes a 4WD light show. This rig can put out some beams! The Max Bilt LED headlights are just the beginning. Up top Papa has a Rough Country upper windshield mount equipped with one of our very  own 50″ LED light bar. Toss in Rigid Industries bumper mounted Dually LED spot lights, 3.5″ LED lights in the grill, and LED under carriage lighting, and you could sell tickets to this ride.
